So I’ve been driving the Miata around with no mid pipe or muffler for about 2 weeks now. It’s obnoxious, illegal, and I feel an overwhelming amount of guilt every time I turn the car on near people.
Now that I have the means, it’s time to put a new exhaust on. I’m deciding between the Cobalt cat back system, and the Roadstersport RS3. The RS3 is more pricy, but you get a much wider variety of sound levels with the baffles you can install. The cobalt is less expensive, but just seems like a more dull drony exhaust. Anyone have experience with either of them? Thanks again oppo
UPDATE: I bought the RS3

I’ve actually never done any research on exhaust. I haven’t heard of the RS3. When I put an exhaust on my car I want to make it a double tip center mounted piece.

You made a wise choice with the RS3. Here’s what I recommend baffle-wise based off of my used setup. I’m running both the mid-pipe and muffler, not because I want to due to the fact I’m technically illegal for my autocross class with the mid-pipe, but because I was forced to install both since the muffler wasn’t lining up with the factory mid-pipe. With both of them installed, there’s an annoying drone from 2400 to 3100rpm when you have the top up, hardtop or softtop. I bought the glass-packed baffle insert from Good-Win-Racing and that reduced the drone by 60-80% so now it’s no longer heard over the stereo.
I keep the baffle in for commuting to and from work since it’s all highway/interstate travel with the top up. However,I do love to remove the baffle for cruising around town, autocrosses, and very
enthusiastic
drives in the mountains.
Both of these videos are with the baffle off to sorta-give you an idea of what it sounds like without the baffle. That first video I showed you a day or so ago of me revving it out was with the baffle installed.
